Looking Into The Future: An Update From The Founders

Dear Friends of Department of Sound,

Since our founding in 2018, we’ve been dedicated to creating educational opportunities for young people to learn skills and express themselves creatively through music and meaningful communication. This past year has been both challenging and rewarding as we transitioned our focus from holding small, in-person beat-making workshops in Sacramento to creating virtual music and podcast production resources for youths around the world and in U.S. schools. With our new virtual programming, we’ve been able to reach 4,000 students in over a dozen countries, and we’ve developed a strategic plan to expand our impact to 30,000 students, refine our programs, and create three new levels of our curriculum by the end of 2021.

In the midst of so much change and uncertainty, we are grateful to each and every one of our supporters and funders who’ve made it possible for us to provide engaging and empowering education to youths who might otherwise lack access to the life-changing benefits of music and sound. We look forward to continuing our strategic partnerships with like-minded nonprofits and companies, and we welcome new partners, donors, and collaborators. For any organizations and individuals interested in contributing to our work, please reach out to us for more information about how you can help us fulfill our mission and directly deliver free music tools and services to students worldwide. To all of you who have supported Department of Sound over the years, thank you for helping us provide opportunities to youth through music, now and well into the future.

With gratitude,

John Hamilton & Tyler Garnett
