Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation

Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation is a forward-looking, independent, self-governed nation in California’s Capay Valley, and we are deeply grateful for their continued and generous support of Department Of Sound. Thanks to the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, we were able to launch our first online flagship program, the Valley Producer Program, in the middle of the global pandemic, and we are now expanding the program throughout Yolo County, CA, developing additional programming and events, and providing even more students from schools in under-serviced areas with music and podcast production education. In 2022, we are excited to launch a series of live events and videos featuring Native music artists from Yolo County focused on Indigenous music and culture, including its significance, history, traditions, and contemporary expressions.

Blavatnik Family Foundation

The Blavatnik Family Foundation is a global philanthropic organization that invests in creativity and donates to world-class art and cultural institutions. We are thankful to The Blavatnik Family Foundation for their continued generous support of Department Of Sound. As one of our earliest and most significant supporters, the Blavatnik Family Foundation’s patronage has been crucial to sustaining Department of Sound and has helped us build the organization from ground-up.

Sacramento Municipal Utility District

SMUD, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, is a community-owned leader in clean energy and carbon reduction. We are proud to be partners with SMUD, and thanks to their support, we launched the Valley Producer Fellowship in the summer of 2021. The Valley Producer Fellowship is our in-depth, multi-year mentorship program that provides students with one-on-one and group instruction, internship placements, employment opportunities, and a Producer Equipment Kit that includes an Apple Macbook Air laptop, headphones, microphone, midi-keyboard, and wifi hotspot. The Fellowship includes a clean energy podcast component that teaches students about SMUDS’s Clean Energy Vision to eliminate carbon emissions from Sacramento’s power supply by 2030−the most ambitious goal of any large utility in the United States−all while helping students develop their podcast production skills and prepare for careers in the creative economy.
