How To Market And Promote Your Music

Now that you have released your music on different streaming platforms, the next step is making sure listeners have a way to discover you. Music marketing and promotion will be crucial to raising awareness about you as an artist and your music. A good strategy is holistic and enables you to reach fans by pushing your music through various channels. There are ways to market and promote yourself both online and offline, including social media marketing, PR campaigns, advertising, radio promotions, and more. Here are a few starter tips:

Build your digital presence

Your digital presence will be an important factor in attracting listeners and creating an audience. You can convert listeners into fans by engaging with them on different platforms. Fans can stay updated with your latest activities and get a better image of who you are through marketing. Create social media profiles and/or a website where you can share content and news to your followers including new music, gigs, and other activities that define you as an artist. This is also an opportunity to be creative and showcase what makes you unique. Don’t forget to look into paid social media ads, Google Ad Words, influencer campaigns, and email marketing.

Build a following on these social media platforms:

  • Instagram

  • Youtube

  • Twitter

  • TikTok

  • Triller

  • Snapchat

  • Facebook

Pitching your music

Pitching is another essential method of getting your music out to an audience. By pitching your music directly to journalists, bloggers and other media outlets, you can find opportunities for coverage that will reach even more music fans. Many artists hire publicists to do this work for them, but you can also pitch yourself.

Playlist pitching is also a great way to get discovered. You can pitch your music to a variety of digital streaming platforms, including official Spotify playlists like "Rap Caviar" which have millions of followers, or smaller playlists curated by users themselves.

Play local shows and gigs

Getting yourself in front of crowds at live shows can also increase your chance of gaining fans. If you're able to land a spot in a local venue, promote the show by sharing the event online and posting flyers around the area.

There are many ways to participate in virtual events as well. Team up with other artists to host a virtual show of your own. Live stream on Facebook, Twitch, or Instagram - create your own opportunities!
