Introduction to Soundtrap
Scroll to the bottom for a step-by-step videoSoundtrap is the interface we use at Department of Sound to help our students kickstart their music and podcast production journey. Here’s a quick introduction to the digital audio workstation.
Step 1: Once you have set up your account through Spotfiy’s Soundtrap, click on “Enter Studio.”
Step 2: You will be prompted with either ‘New Project’ or ‘Demos.’ In this brief introduction, click on ‘Demos’ followed by ‘Dubstep’ to get started.
Step 3: Once you open Soundtrap’s dubstep demo layout, get acquainted with the tools.
At the very bottom of the screen you will notice the following buttons (from left to right): record button, stop, rewind, play, and fast forward.
** A short-cut to stop or play your soundtrack is to simply press the spacebar. **
Step 5: On the left side of the interface, you will find the instrumental tracks and some symbols to manipulate their outputs.
From left to right:
‘R’ stands for RECORD: press the button and it will appear red as it records the individual track (for that specific instrument).
‘Vol’ is VOLUME: click and hold while scrolling the mouse up or down to increase or decrease the volume accordingly.
Solo / Headphones Icon: it will mute all the other instrument tracks. Note that you can click the solo button on multiple tracks to hear your desired sounds.
Mute: mutes the specific individual track which you selected in order to hear how the rest of the instruments sound together.
Automation: allows you to adjust the Pan, Sweep, or Volume.
Lastly, the three dots in the corner: edit the name of the track, delete, import, or export tracks.
