What exactly does a Production Assistant do?

A production assistant, often referred to as a PA, provides support and assistance to any and all areas of production to ensure a shoot runs smoothly. This may include moving equipment, setting up props, managing extras, and handling paperwork. They are responsible for helping the producer or director to get the set ready for each day’s shoot.

What type of skill sets should I develop in preparation for the field?

A production assistant often wears many hats, so it is important that they are fast-paced individuals who like to multi-task. This role requires flexibility and a positive attitude, so be sure you develop strong customer service skills. Get involved in groups that let you practice being a team player, this will be a strong tool to take you with to set.
